NEWS LETTER 2008

Sailaday Report 2007

2008 REPORT AND NEWS

• Funding searches : Some initial success with donations and sponsors, but limited and bleak as far as main funders for first part of the year.
• Presentation to Truro Rotary Club. Outcome is they will support us for 2009
• Health Partnerships meeting.
• promotional brochure for encouraging sponsorship and what we can do for them ,and update client brochure
• Completed evaluations for 2007, quantitative and qualitative evaluation. (see)
• Contracts with clients initiated and secure bookings.
• Reviewed contributions and had a sliding scale from £50.00 per day to £100.00 plus provisions and direct expenses, fuel etc. per day.
• Re- wrote intake forms and evaluation forms.
• Many thanks to Donny who is a pleasure to work with and always positive and supportive.: Always encouraging and willing to look for funding in places I have not gone to. (See report.)
• Sessions started 27thy March.. Last session27th October 15 mostly 3 day sessions 43 days at sea. 28 women, 32 men Total 60 persons ( 2007 Total sessions 16., 42 day/nights, 58 persons )

Generally a mixed bag of weather some good and quite a lot of wet and windy but overall log shows a large increase in windy days and nights we had to seek shelter from gales. Far less use of the sun screen cream. Only one session was shortened by half a day due to severe weather. But there was also consistently some of the best sailing I can remember. ( see pics) Physis behaved very well and although there was some equipment that need to be replaced and continuous small repairs undertaken due to stressful conditions and wear and tear, nothing to stop sessions or cause safety issues.

Personally experienced an increased sense of clarity and refinement of the therapeutic process and consequently increase effectiveness for the clients. Felt at ease and competent and very encouraged by feedback of some of the continious benefits of the work. What were recurring themes were " trust your body and all the sensations you feel, they do not lie" and " its the process that's important not always the outcome, you may need to let it go."

• Suggested action to be taken from sessions, replace sleeping bags, longer sessions, a second compass in cockpit.

• Feed back has been very positive . (see feedback from Longreach and evaluations ) (see evaluations ) quantitative / qualitative report to follow.

. Funding started to trickle in, by July full funded including funding from St.James's which had conditions attached for a specific client group.(See accounts). Conditions from Sport Relief for safety equipment.

• Several visits to Plymouth to asses particularly vulnerable female clients.

• Developed a stand and promotional photos for presentation at Plymouth for open day at Longreach. To be used at events.

• Thanks to King Harry ferry, St. Austell brewery, and Joshua Hall who raised £500.00 from a bunji jump.

• Donation form now approved by banks for standing orders and CAF set up donation site on web site and tax collected etc. Which you may want to use. !!

• Thanks to Sue for writing article for Addiction Today published summer. Disappointing lack of interest and feedback from possible clients. ( see article)

• Sorry that there was no Trustees outing this year, both times called off due to unsuitable weather.

• Plans for 2009:
a. sessions; Extended sessions 3/5 days, Particular difficulties with supplies, funding but this is repeatedly asked for. Possibility of selecting from previous enthusiastic users a crew for an extended cruise, including clients who have left the residential s.

b. new clients. Residential nr. Stroud. Inishfree due to contact Margaritte donny's wife. YW Truro and New start, Truro, want to send clients as well as St. Petroc,s for homeless people, a more chaotic client group and I need some help with the intake form to have a question that measures there ability to follow instructions, i.e. amount of 'Adult' available.

c.Fund raising programme for small amounts, New application on web site for collecting donations. and collecting standing orders more e-mail; shots. Programme in process for finding new volunteers for fund raising especially at events. Cornwall Show, maritime Museum, Tesco's etc. Any other suggestions.
Feed back from agencies we work with has been positive and encouraging see agency reports
